Facebook Support: 10/10 Highly Recommend
It’s only taken a full year to get this sorted out. Great customer service, Facebook. 10/10 highly recommend.
393 days ago, my Facebook account (FOLLOW ME) was compromised along with many others as part of a sophisticated hack originating in the Chrome Browser extension store.
In short: attackers compromised the credentials of several popular Chrome extension developers and injected malicious code into trusted extensions. When browsers auto-updated, users’ machines were compromised.
Rather than stealing login credentials directly, the attackers extracted already-authenticated user sessions from the browser cache — bypassing passwords and authenticators entirely.
It took months to regain full access to my account. Even after access was restored, Facebook flagged the account as “suspicious,” told me I needed to appeal, and then provided no functional mechanism to do so.
My verified status lapsed, and without Meta Verified I had no access to support capable of fixing the issue.
Fast-forward to last week: for the first time in over a year, the option to verify my identity reappeared. Tonight, I was finally able to resubscribe — ending over a year of unresolved account limbo.
The question many have asked is simple: Why go through all this? Why not just start a new account?
Because you don’t trade Boardwalk for starter property.
This account dates back to 2007. When Facebook’s systems aren’t suppressing it, accounts of that age and continuity operate under an entirely different trust model than new ones. That matters when the account is used for advocacy, ministry, writing, and business. That kind of ground can’t be recreated — and it’s worth defending.
So yes, I have my silly little badge back.

But more importantly, I have my account back.
