Thoughts and reflections on ‘no politics’ week

So, you’re probably wondering how that ‘No Politics for a week’ thing went. It was actually quite serene. Then school happened and I went to visit my girlfriend (not particularly in that order) and then I went to the #MarchForLife in Washington, DC and… It’s been busy.

It was nice to get some distance from the constant scandals and carnage that is our news lately. Many of my political pages on Facebook are still set to not show in my feed, and you know what? That’s fine. I still see the ones that are most important to me, and, especially, those shared by my friends. It’s kind of like a buffer for me. I needed that. It’s nice to see posts about other things.

I strongly encourage you to do the same. Take a chill. Relax. Let it go. The world will continue to have problems and most of them not solved while you take a break.

Also, if you’re one of the ones who have not been involved in politics, maybe this is the time to start. Find something you’re passionate about and learn about it. Then do something about it. Stop being someone who hides their head in the sand. This is the real world and the problems won’t go away if you ignore them.

Wake up you sleepers!

(Mostly) No Politics For a Week

Barring something earth shattering, I’m going to take a break from politics for an entire week. It’s going to be my fast. As you know from this site and my Facebook page, I’m constantly sharing and commenting on the current political scene. Although it’s good to be involved, I’ve been involved so passionately for so … Read more

Rebuking “Conservatives”

I’m a Conservative. No surprise there. I take my political and religious beliefs very serious. Of course, like most anyone, I do differ on some issues (I’m unsure about the death penalty), but if you have me take a political quiz I’ll almost always come out “Conservative”. Because of this, I feel the need to … Read more

Snippet: Tragic Shooting

Breathtaking winter landscape featuring snow-covered trees under a dramatic sky.

This is a tragic shooting that I don’t want to turn political, but in light of the current debates in Washington and around the country, I think it’s prudent to mention. A fifteen year old girl, Hadiya Pendleton, was murdered in Chicago this week, only a week after performing in inaugural events for President Barack … Read more

My Stint as a Girl Scout: Feminism & It’s Destruction of A Good Thing

A group of scouts discovering an animal skull in a forest setting.

At that young age, I sensed it. I couldn’t put it into terms, but I could see it and feel it. It came to a point where when we visited the council headquarters, I would beg my mom to let me stay out in the car. The last thing I wanted was to go inside and be made to feel like a pariah for no fault of my own. I told my mom that. She let me stay outside.

Ukrainian Smackdown: A Good Omen

If you haven’t seen it already you may want to take a look at it. The jist of it is Ukrainian majority and minority parties aren’t getting along. Two days in a row these differences resulted in a massive brawls in parliament. You can read the whole article here and the YouTube Video below.

While many see this as a bad sign (naturally, those in government shouldn’t be pummeling each other), I’m looking at it differently. Not only is this awesome—a bunch of grown men in suits beating each other up—but a sign that democracy is alive and well in the Ukraine.

Romney 2016: My Opposition & The Republican Civil War

Simple conceptual image featuring the word 'VOTE' and blank paper, ideal for election themes.

I oppose Mitt Romney in the 2016 elections and this is why: Soon after Mitt Romney surrendered–despite massive reports of voter fraud and inconsistencies in the vote–some Republicans already began chanting “Romney 4 2016″… The reality is this: Mitt Romney is old news. He let down the Republican Party. Even more so the Conservatives that … Read more

Darth Obama: A Star Wars Political Satire

Sith Lord Obama

This little story was inspired by a comment left on a Fox News article that mentioned “Restoring the Republic”. The wording made me think of the following scene from Star Wars where Darth Vader enters announcing that the “Imperial Senate” has been dissolved. Here I replace the characters in the original script with liberal political … Read more
