Quote: Natural Passion is Hard to Subdue — Pride
In reality, there is, perhaps, no one of our natural passions so hard to subdue as pride. Disguise it, struggle with it, beat it down, stifle it, mortify it as much as one pleases, it is still alive, and will every now and then peep out and show itself… for, even if I could conceive that I had completely overcome it, I should probably be proud of my humility.

Thanks Monkey for this quote!
Editorial Note: I likely shared this quote sometime in 2005 or 2006, but issues with the database resulted in a publishing date of 2010. I’ve updated it as of 2026. I don’t even remember who “Monkey” was, maybe Sara Hall? Maybe another girl in my teen friend group at the time.
I’ve verified the quote comes from The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin in various forms.
